Originally organized by volunteers from the League of Utah Writers, the LDS Publishing & Media Association, the Utah and Southern Idaho chapter of the Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Utah Horror Writers, and the Utah Romance Writers of America, the Utah's Book Marketing Conference (UBMC, pronounced "Uhb Mac") is an annual symposium or conference held in Utah and focusing on teaching authors tips, tools, strategies, principles, and trends for marketing and selling books, be they long (e.g., novels, series), short (e.g., short stories, novellas), fiction, or non-fiction books.
Although good writing craft is essential for captivating audiences and selling books, the UBMC's focus is on book marketing and book selling and not on writing craft. There may be some presentations on writing craft at the annual symposium or conference but generally only if the writing craft subject pertains to marketing and selling books (e.g., writing effective back cover copy).
In addition to presentations by authors and marketers, there are also vendors at the annual meeting. The UBMC also hosts a book cover contest in conjunction with the annual meeting (click HERE for more info).
